Question:

If a recipe calls for Sea salt. Could Himalayan Pink salt be used as well?

— Sandra Hasenpflug

Answer:

The quick answer is yes. And, um, I mean, you know, by and large, and certainly for routine cooking, um, you know, salts are, are, are basically interchangeable, okay? And, um, you know, what might, um, uh, influence a decision in one direction or another is the cost of the salt. Um, you know, where some, uh, um, let's say more flavorful, uh, expensive salts are marketed as finishing salts, and because of their price, people tend to reserve those for that last little adjustment prior to service. Uh, in which case, uh, you know, uh, if we look at, look at it from the other direction, you, you know, you may not wanna use such as salt for your, your daily cooking, but on the other hand, if, um, that price tag is not a concern, you know, and you, you like that flavor of that particular salt, you can, you can use that for your daily cooking too. It, it works very well. So, uh, yeah, quick answer is, um, there is great interchangeability between salts. Um, the, uh, an exception that comes to mind. Uh, this happens to be, uh, a refer to a sample that, um, we've got in the cupboard here, uh, at home. And that is, you get some of these, uh, fancy pants salts, um, that might have some additives. And the one I'm thinking of has some charcoal added to it. So it's, it's a black flake salt, and, um, it'll turn your food black. So, you know, just think about those sort of characteristics as you choose the salt to use.
