Question:

Do you recommend using a vegetable wash to clean vegetables?

— SUSAN SCHOP

Answer:

Well, I do not use vegetable washes. Uh, you can make your own vegetable wash with equal amounts of a white vinegar and water and a little bit of coarse salt, and then scrub the vegetables with it and then rinse with rapid flushing, uh, cold water. My grandmother, uh, was never sick a day in her life. And when she picked all of her vegetables from her garden, she washed them under the sink in cold, cold water. Um, the CDC recommends the same exact thing that, uh, cold running water is the best way to, uh, remove, uh, pesticides, uh, people residue from touching when whether they were picked or processed or whatever, um, takes away the wax that might be on vegetables. But I don't think that you actually need to go and buy a vegetable wa vegetable wash cold water or making your own will work very, very well.
